I love every aspect of games!
These drawings are of Basil, the protagonist in the first game of my Project Portfolio. They were never part of the game. In fact, I wasn’t even on Team Basil when I drew them. Instead, I drew her because I was genuinely inspired (as I often am) by what Team Basil’s artists had created and thought it would be fun to explore how she might be portrayed in different contexts.
I forwarded my thoughts to the team’s Producer and heard that the team’s artists really enjoyed my ‘dev art’, even printing it and posting it in the game space. Even though I drew them for fun, my genuine interest in game art and respect for those who create it ultimately shows up as a relentless drive to improve my ‘dev side’ work so that level design, character movements, and the many other technical tasks I deliver become a true extension of an artistic narrative and vision. I believe the approach made me a more effective cross-team collaborator when I joined Team Basil just a few months later.
You can take the Logan out of Colorado, but…
I was so happy to find a super cool climbing gym just a few miles from my house. It is the perfect way to spend an hour or two when I just need to clear my head.
Once day - I might even go outside and climb on a real rock.
One Hit Wonder
As proof of how much I love to develop games, I officially gave up my life as a YouTube star to to learn how to make games.
OK - it may take more than 1 video and I suspect that I would actually need to talk and show my face in the next one, but check out this clip of 14-year old me running around Sonic Utopia. No really… please check it out… and make sure to hit the bell for part 2!
I even scare myself!
While this may not be my Pocket Ace for getting a job in the gaming industry, I’m good to have around if any monsters move-in.
